All of our wings are named after black civilians that lived in Gettysburg during the Civil War. As a black-owned business, we are proud to honor these 5 civilians for the impact they had on our history.
Sydney o’Brien (plain)

Sydney O’ Brien was a slave to the founders of Gettysburg, Samuel, and James Gettys. After their deaths, Sydney obtained her freedom and purchased a small piece of property along South Washington Street and helped established the borough’s black neighborhood until her death in 1873.
Mag palm (bbQ)

Margaret “Mag” Palm lived in Gettysburg and worked as a maid. She was also a conductor on the Underground Railroad where she helped many slaves escape to freedom. She once escaped her own attempted kidnapping from Maryland slave-owners who wanted to catch her and sell her into slavery for a large profit.
abraham brian (buffalo)

Abraham Brian (Bryan) purchased and lived on a farm just outside of the town of Gettysburg with his 5 children. They decided to flee when they heard news of a possible Confederate invasion only to return after the battle to a nearly destroyed house and barn. Brian repaired the damages and continued farming until he eventually sold his property and moved into town.
lloyd watts (house)

Lloyd Watts was born in Maryland but moved to Adams County when he was a boy. He enlisted in the United States Colored Troops and only after a week was promoted to Sergeant. After the war, he returned to Gettysburg and became the first black teacher in town. He also served as a Deacon and President of the Board of Trustees at A.M.E. Zion Church. Watts, along with others, founded the Sons of Good Will, which established Lincoln Cemetery, a burial ground for veterans of the United States Colored Troops and black civilians.
basil biggs (hot honey garlic)

Basil Biggs worked as a veterinarian and farmer in Gettysburg. He and his family fled during the battle and returned home to his property in ruins and a massive Confederate field hospital. Several soldiers were buried in shallow graves throughout his land. Basil was eventually contracted to help properly bury bodies in the National Cemetery and was also a founder of the Sons of Good Will. He is buried in the Lincoln Cemetery.
